The company was founded as United California Brokers in 1989, in Danville, California, by Dennis Simkin. In April 2007 United California Brokers became People & Properties, and was awarded the prized Sotheby’s International Realty® affiliation, a prestigious brand built on a 260 year reputation and foundation for excellence.
People & Properties Sotheby’s International Realty® has quickly developed into one of the most successful locally owned and operated real estate companies. Dennis Simkin the founder of People & Properties Sotheby's International Realty®, began his real estate career in 1964 as an 18 year old. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Marketing at San Jose State. In 1974, he became Manager of Valley Realty, where he remained for 8-10 years. He then founded Blackhawk Real Estate and was affiliated with them until founding People & Properties Sotheby's International Realty®. Dennis believes strongly in trust, the importance of follow through and building a strong referral system.

Bob Pohl a native of Alamo, began his real estate career with Gelderman Realtors in a residential golf course community, then spent time in management at Round Hill Country Club and Blackhawk Country Club. Bob was also involved with LPGA in management and with a sports marketing venture before return to his roots in real estate with People & Properties Sotheby's International Realty®. Bob believes in combining "old-fashioned" personal service with the innovations and cutting-edge technology.
